I remain a big fan of dishes that taste like snack, but are secretly just quite healthy. This oyster mushroom shawarma is a perfect example

Shoarma seasoning is so delicious that it is suitable for flavoring much more than meat. Earlier I used it in a salad with chickpeas, but it also works very well with oyster mushrooms. Especially if you fry those a little longer they get a texture that at least to me does remind me of meat. The bell pepper and red onion provide some extra filling and flavor.

Of course, the big advantage of oyster mushroom-based shoarma is that it's actually just pretty healthy. While you're snacking on it. Serve with salad and pita bread or a wrap. This shoarma is very tasty with this salad of cucumber and cherry tomatoes.

Tips

  • You can make the dish ahead of time; it will stay good in the refrigerator for a few days. Just bake it before you want it
  • The spice mixture in this recipe is wonderfully simple. You can very easily give it a little something extra, by adding some cinnamon and/or coriander, for example
  • You can also use other mushrooms, although I really like the texture of oyster mushrooms for this

for the shoarma seasoning

  • 1tsp
    ground cumin seed
  • 0.5tsp
    garlic powder
  • 0.5tsp
    bell pepper
  • 0.25tsp
    kurkuma
  • 0.25tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 0.25tsp
    salt

for the oyster mushrooms

Preparation

step 1

Put all the spices in a bowl and mix together

Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the oyster mushrooms, bell pepper and red onion along with a pinch of salt. Fry a few minutes through

step 3

Stir the herbs into the vegetables and cook for a few more minutes
