Red cabbage with apple is, of course, a classic. The homemade version tastes very different from the one you can buy ready-made in plastic packaging. The nice thing about making it yourself is that you can prepare it completely to your own taste.

This recipe For red cabbage with apple is very suitable for the holidays. The addition of cinnamon, star anise and cloves makes it nice and spicy and therefore just that little bit more special. Like many winter dishes, it takes a while before it is ready, but the preparation is not too bad.

Tips

  • You can make the red cabbage well in advance. It stays good for 3 days in the refrigerator, or for up to 3 months frozen. Just be sure to let it thaw before reheating. Add a splash of water if it seems too dry.
  • Orange instead of lemon works perfectly
  • Want to make it extra festive? Then add a splash of red wine
  • You can also add the red cabbage to the oven thread. Then cover it with aluminum foil and bake it at 160°C for about an hour until the red cabbage is completely soft
